Finding The Volunteer Job That Is Right For You
When deciding the type of volunteer job that you would like to do, it is helpful to think about the following:
- Why do you want to volunteer?
- What do you enjoy doing?
- How much time do you have available to volunteer?
- Do you want to work with a special age group e.g. children, adults/seniors?
OR
Do you prefer to work by yourself? - How will you get to your volunteer job? Does it need to be on the bus line?
When applying for a volunteer position, remember these tips:
- Always call ahead and schedule an interview. Never walk into an agency without appointment.
- Be prepared for the interview. You should be able to answer all of the questions listed above.
- Have a clean and neat appearance. Some organizations may require a specific dress code.
- Be on time. If you cannot make it to your volunteer position, always call to let them know in plenty of time.
- Do not be afraid to ask questions.
