Welcome to the Franklin County
Weather Siren Volunteer Monitor Program
Be a Siren Buddy!
The Franklin County Outdoor Warning System consists of one-hundred and forty-eight (148) sirens that are located throughout Franklin County. This system, which is meant to alert people outdoors, is activated by local officials to warn the public of severe weather conditions. The Outdoor Warning System Sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00-Noon, weather permitting.
Siren Buddies are needed to help monitor the sirens. The requirements to be a Siren Buddy are as follows:
- You agree to monitor an assigned siren within one mile of your home or work place
- You agree to monitor the siren at least one Wednesday per month
- You must be able to both hear the siren and see it rotating
- You must report by phone immediately, if the siren did not function properly
To become a Siren Buddy volunteer or for more information, please contact Matt Schick at homelandmgr@firstlink.org or call him at 614-221-6766 ext. 148.
Thank you for helping to make Franklin County a safer community!
REMEMBER: Responding to threatening weather is easy as one-two-three:
- Listen for your neighborhood outdoor warning siren
- Tune into your local radio or television station for safety instructions
- Listen to your NOAA weather radio for constant weather updates
