Foster Grandparents (FGP) - Make a Difference in the Life of a Child

FIRSTLINK, Inc is the sponsor for the Foster Grandparent Program. The FGP program provides an opportunity for people age 60 and older to mentor, tutor and offer emotional support to children with special needs and exceptional special needs. FIRSTLNK Foster Grandparent Program has more than forty-one sites where people serve children in Head Start centers, pre-schools, elementary schools, County Boards of MRDD and private institutions. Foster Grandparents give their time and experience to improve the lives of children in need. They provide one-on-one mentoring, tutoring and emotional support to children. How can You Benefit?

As a Foster Grandparent, you'll receive:

  • Pre-service orientation and monthly training
  • A modest tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering
  • Reimbursement for transportation
  • An annual physical
  • Accident and liability insurance while on duty
  • Some meals during service

Who can be a Foster Grandparent?

You can be a Foster Grandparent if you:

  • Have a genuine love for children
  • Are 60 years of age or older
  • Can volunteer a minimum of 15 -20 hours per week
  • Meet certain income eligibility guidelines
